What goes in, and where it goes

- One PDF at a time, of any page size. Pages of different sizes in the same document are handled individually, and pages saved sideways are handled too — the number faces the reader rather than running up the edge.

Common questions
Can I start numbering at a page other than the first?
You can leave the first page unnumbered, which covers the usual case of a cover sheet. What you can’t do yet is restart the count — skipping the first page still numbers the second one “2”, because the number says where the page sits in the document. That is the same thing Word does with its “different first page” setting.
Where exactly does the number go?
Half an inch in from the two edges you choose, which is the conventional inset for a page number. The size is scaled to the page, so it lands around 11pt on A4 and stays readable on much larger or smaller pages.
What happens to pages that were scanned sideways?
The number is placed and turned so that it reads correctly for whoever opens the file. A page rotated 90 degrees gets its number in the corner the reader sees as bottom-right, not the corner it would be if the page were unturned.
Will it cover up something already on the page?
It is drawn on top of the existing content, so if a page already has something in that exact corner the two will overlap. Picking a different edge or alignment is the fix. Nothing underneath is removed or altered.
